The German Section of the European Guitar Teachers Association (EGTA-D) has hosted the International Competition for Young Guitarists "Andrés Segovia" since 2006, and Monheim am Rhein has been its venue since 2016. Every two years, up to 90 passionate youngsters from about 30 different countries travel to Monheim to take part.
Participants compete in three age groups:
Age group I – up to 13 years old
Age group II – 14 to 16 years old
Age group III – 17 to 19 years old
Participants are allocated to age groups according to their age on June 2, 2024. In age group III, there will be two rounds – a first round and a final round
The repertoire that the young artists perform must contain certain mandatory pieces. Up to five monetary prizes will be awarded per age group, in amounts ranging from 100 to 1500 euros, plus additional non-cash prizes. For more information on the terms of participation, please refer to the General terms and conditions section. All performances will be public, and admission is free
The jury will rate performances according to the following points system:
20 to 25 points: Excellent
17 to 19 points: Very good
14 to 16 points: Good
less than 14 points: Successful participation
The 13th International Competition for Young Guitarists "Andrés Segovia" will take place in Monheim am Rhein from May 29 to June 1, 2024.
Candidates can submit applications between January 1 and February 29, 2024.
